How a Slime Ingredient Cleaned My Tile
Let’s be frank…….Rural water has a tendency to be a bit rusty…….
A quick moment of honesty
Life gets busy.
On the crazy busy days my mental motto is:
If it doesn’t stink, cry, or need to be fed it’s okay if it doesn’t get done.
I can feel my season of life slowly shifting from being in the daily trenches of raising young children to teaching them more life skills and helping them be more self sufficient.
If you are a mother of young children, IT WILL GET BETTER! There will be a day where you will once again have a few moments of uninterrupted time! I’m living proof as I type this!
The simple slime ingredient Cleaning process
I live in a house that was built in 1918. Some parts are original and some have been added on and changed. When we moved in our first project was remodeling the bathroom. It needed some major updating!
The shower we have now was once a cupboard and storage area. It’s crazy how things can be changed! I love the process and I can even say that I sloped and prepared the drain! It was kind of like frosting a really big cake!
Now that I have a bit more time on my hands with my kids being older and slightly more self sufficient I can tackle more things that I notice need attention. One thing that has caught my eye is that the shower has been developing an unsightly rusty brown stain on it somewhere along the line.
I’ve tried a few different things
- Magic Eraser – I love them for small cleaing jobs but they disintegrate into a shredded mess when used for a big cleaning project.
- Iron out – this was a bit too chemical based for my liking, I forget to buy it, and might not be the best for my septic system.
- After shower tile cleaning spray – This idea is great and kudos to you if you can remember to use it but like I said Life gets busy.
I finally found a glory moment when I was able to tackle this cleaning to do task.
While looking though my cleaning cupboard for a wash cloth (check out this link (COMING SOON!) to learn how to crochet your own wash cloth or purchase some already made!) I saw hidden in the back a box of borax powder.
Something that I had purchased when my kids were all into the slime phase.
On the box it says its Non-toxic All Natural Cleaning Borax – This 100% pure borax is completely safe to use around the house in the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry.
I though why not give it a try! It’s here in my cupboard and I’ve got a moment to experiment. It seems like a simple product that has been around for sometime and gets over looked by all the other fancy smelling cleaning products.
So I got to experimenting. I mixed up a simple paste of water, powder and a bit of lemon juice for a nice fresh scent!
Then got to work applying the cleaning paste to the unsightly rusty areas. I was super surprised to see how quickly it was working!
*side track – I am working on my prayer life and creating some connections in my daily routine. Read more HERE (COMING SOON) if you are interested. This verse came to mind as I was working:
The Experiment and results!!
This is how it started with the unsightly brown rust on the tile.
I mixed up a simple paste of water, powder and a bit of lemon juice for a nice fresh scent!
Then got to work applying the cleaning paste to the unsightly rusty areas. I was super surprised to see how quickly it was working!
After using a bit of elbow grease for scrubbing down the tile I let it sit to dry.
I used a spray bottle filled with water to make sure the paste was covering well and soaking into the grout.
I took a little break while waiting for it to dry and came back with a bucket of water and used a rag for rinsing the dried paste off.
I was really surprised to see how well it worked! The rust came off easily leaving the tile bright and shiny again.
In Conclusion,
The result show the success of the experiment.
It’s also worked great for the grout too!
An added bonus – its all natural so no need to worry about chemical fumes!
I hope this cleaning tip helps you out and the verse and links are encouraging and helpful.
Give it a try! It’s simple but you will love the results.
