It’s pretty simple!! Let’s give it a try together!

If you are looking for a cozy and easy blanket, look no further than this chunky blanket tutorial. All you need is yarn and your own two hands. This type of blanket is often called an arm knit or finger knit blanket, since no needles are required – just your hands! While it may sound complicated, this project is actually quite simple.

Let’s Gather our supplies to make our chunky blanket!

First, you’ll need to gather your materials. For this project, you’ll need several skeins of chunky yarn – the amount will depend on the size of blanket you’d like to make. Five skeins make a nice lap blanket.

Once you have your yarn you will need a big open space to work in. This project is done entirely in one piece, so you’ll need plenty of room to spread out.

On the label you can find what size the yarn is. I like to look for a size 6 or 7

Now it’s time to get started :

Open the yarn and find the end. The yarn is used fairly quickly so it doesn’t matter which end you choose to start with.

Make a slip knot. *twist a loop and pull the ‘working yarn’ (the part that is leading to the ball of yarn.) through the middle. You should be able to slide the loop larger and smaller.

Using this same method, reaching through the middle of the loop, pull up another loop. Continue until your desired blanket size. 25- 30 loops makes a great couch blanket.

You should end up with a nice chunky chain like this! Now you are ready to start the next row.

Next, bring the working yarn across the top of the chain row. (The chain row looks similar to a braid, you will pull up a loop through each section of one side of the braid) Pull up a loop in each stitch across. Try to keep them as even as possible. This will help your blanket look uniform in shape and stitch size.

Continue until you’re blanket is the side you’d like! Simply tie on the end of the next skein and continue finger knitting your rows.

How to finish the chunky blanket

When you run out of yarn you are ready to work the finishing row.

This one will be worked a little differently. You will start on the opposite side of your long tail of yarn.

Simply take the first loop and put the one next to it through the middle. Tug it a bit and press the first loop to the bottom. Then continue taking the next loop and bringing it through the middle of the last one just worked. Do this across the entire row.

When you reach the end simply bring the working yarn through the last loop! Tie off and weave in the end to secure.

Congratulations! You just finished an amazing chunky yarn blanket with nothing but your own two hands! This is a great project to do while watching TV or chatting with friends. Enjoy your cozy new blanket!

Finally, Enjoy your comfy chunky blanket!!

You could make a chunky blanket for yourself or as a gift for someone special.

With just a few skeins of chunky yarn and a little time, you can create a warm and cozy blanket that will keep you or someone else!

These make great gifts for anyone! I love using mine in the camper, by the bonfire on chilly nights, and of course all winter long!
