Rest
The word this week is :
Rest
Defination
cease work or movement
in order to relax,
refresh oneself,
or recover strength.
Verse
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
The Importance of Rest :
We all know that we need rest. Rest is a crucial part of our lives that allows us to recharge and face the challenges of each day. But what exactly is rest? Rest is not just about sleep, although that is certainly an important part of it. Rest is defined as “a state of inactivity or relaxation”.
Jesus says to come to him all who are weary and burdened and He WILL GIVE US REST!!
How awesome is that!
This word has been arising in my heart and mind for several months.
I think the Lord is trying to tell me something.
I need Rest. You need Rest. We all need Rest.
But what exactly does that mean?
You might find it surprising, as I did, that there are seven types of rest
we all need to regain focus, strength, and sanity.
Physical rest
Mental rest
Spiritual rest
Emotional rest
Social rest
Sensory rest
Creative rest
These areas are well described in the book “Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore your Sanity” by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith.
I highly recommend this book to anyone feeling weary and burdened.
Rest is not a luxury, it is a necessity. We need to find ways to incorporate all seven types of rest into our lives in order to live our best lives. I don’t have all the answers worked out on this one. I’m simply passing along a resource that I think could be helpful!
There is even a free quick test you can utilize that will help you determine which type of rest you need most!

Mind
Mental rest is down time that allows you to quiet your mind.
Do you have low productivity, memory fog, a racing mind, easily distracted?
You may need mental rest.
Body
Physical rest is resting your body.
Are you tired all the time, forgetful, irritable, lack of sleep?
You may need more Physical rest.
Spirit
Spiritual rest give you the ability to connect beyond the mental and physical.
Do you feel a disconnect with God, are you always tired, feeling unfulfilled?
You may need more spiritual rest.
Word of the Week Take Away :
I can see in the eyes of the people I walk by that here are many needing rest. We are a society that is always on the go, and we rarely take the time to just stop and rest. This is definitely a challenge for me as I continuously feel the need to do something and I feel like I’m wasting time by resting. Perhaps this is the knowledge I need to create a different perspective. Rest is not a luxury, it is a necessity and I’m going to make it more of a priority (just like prayer) in my life from now on.
I plan on continuing to explore these seven areas of rest in further detail. I would love to hear your thoughts as well and if there would be any interest in bringing together a group to discuss this book and the seven types of rest.
